Seth Nelson is the founding attorney and managing partner at NLG bringing over 15 years of exclusive experience in Florida divorce and family law. Known for his no-nonsense style, legal creativity, and compassionate approach, Seth is deeply committed to helping clients navigate one of the most difficult times in their lives. He strives to find a settlement but is ready, willing and able to fight for his clients in court if necessary. His clients describe him as strategic, empathetic, and fiercely dedicated to achieving the best outcomes.
From an early age, Seth has always wanted to help people. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law and began his legal career clerking for the Honorable John C. Godbold, Senior Circuit Judge for the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. After law school, he found that he could do the greatest good by helping people through one of the most difficult times of their lives. Being a divorcee himself — as well as a parent — he understands the process, the challenges, & the pain you’re facing. After returning to his hometown of Tampa, he gained experience at respected Florida law firms before founding NLG in 2008.
A respected leader in the legal community, Seth has served as Chair of the Family Law Section of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and continues to serve on its Executive Council. He is a former member of the Executive Council for the Stann Givens Family Law Inns of Court and a former certified family mediator with the Florida Supreme Court Family Mediator Association. His legal excellence has been recognized by Super Lawyers with honors in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, and he maintains top professional ratings from both Super Lawyers and Avvo. He is also the co-host of the podcast How to Split a Toaster, which focuses on preserving relationships during and after divorce through honest conversations and legal insights.
Outside the office, Seth remains actively involved in the Tampa community and brings heart, humor, and humility to everything he does. As a divorcee and father, he brings a unique, personal perspective to the challenges his clients face. Whether he’s guiding a client, mentoring a colleague, or spending time with his son, Seth’s work is rooted in one clear mission: Helping good people through difficult times.
